Little Green Lake and Lake Puckaway
You can also experience great fishing on Little Green Lake, and Lake Puckaway is just a short drive from town. The lakes contain walleye, bass, perch, blue gill, and muskie. Spend a relaxing day on the water kayaking or boating.
During the fall, deer, pheasant, and duck hunting are great in the area. During the winter months, snowmobilers will find a groomed trail system that connects riders from Illinois to upper Michigan.

Grand River Marsh Wildlife Area
The greater Markesan area has a wealth of habitats for birds and wildlife. The 7,000-acre Grand River Marsh Wildlife area -just west of Markesan and Kingston is a state-owned property that provides fantastic birding opportunities. Over 260 bird species have been found in the Green Lake Country area. This area also offers many recreational activities: biking, canoeing, fishing, hunting, and wildlife watching.
Lake Maria Park is a lovely area for wildlife photography. Many home and cabin rentals dot the area, as well as 2 area campgrounds.

Dalton and Kingston Amish Settlements
A few miles from Markesan are the Dalton and Kingston Amish settlements, among the state’s largest and most well-known Amish communities.
